This
does seem to be the theme of our last few Christmas letters. Nothing
really seems to change-it is a good thing that Brian and I both enjoy
consistency. As you probably guessed, I am still in school. I am far
enough into the program that I can not quit, but I am not close enough
to the see the light at the end of the tunnel. By the next Christmas
letter I will be working on my dissertation. Our goal is to be back in
Chicago (as in "relocated") for my sister's graduation sometime
in 1998, 1999, or the year 2000. Her graduation date is as tentative
as mine.
Not much new happened for us in 1996. We spent
just enough time in Chicago last Christmas to remember exactly how cold
it really gets in the Midwest. Spring, filled with preparations for the
summer camp I coordinate, flew right by and seemed to take Summer right
along with it. The next thing I knew it was Fall. This year my internship
is in a school district where I am a school psychologist. I primarily
assess children for special education placement, run counseling groups,
and work with teachers and parents. I sort of already knew I was not
interested in this more traditional school psychologist position, but
this internship confirmed it. Don't get me wrong, it's interesting, I
am learning a lot, and meeting great people; nine months will be enough.
Brian is going into his 4th year as technician
with Ikon Office Solutions where he repairs Canon
copiers and fax machines. He enjoys being a Team Leader but is sometimes
frustrated supervising his flock. Brian's standards are high, when he
fixes a machine, it's fixed. Customers really appreciate that quality
in him. Copiers have been know to call out his name in distress. Unfortunately,
genetic engineering is not at the level where Brian can clone himself.
Sometime this year, I think in May, we acquired
two cats. Dogs are our first love, but our life style just won't meet
the needs of a puppy. Cats
were the next best thing. Jack turned 1 in August and is learning
to fetch and walk on a leash - just like a dog! He's not all that keen
on the leash-we just drag him around for now. Jeremiah is 10 years old
and blind. Every day he amazes us by his ability to get around. He has
always been blind so I guess he doesn't know any better. In the process
of blood testing done for dental work (he needs a tooth pulled), the
vet discovered a kidney problem. He is on special food which has put
a damper on both his and Jack's eating habits. That veterinary food just
isn't as tasty. Hopefully Jeremiah's kidney problem will not worsen.
In the mean time, Brian and I have been trying to convince Jack that
he may need to be a kidney donor.
Thanks to my parents, Brian and I will be spending
this Christmas with them in Acapulco. We will
only be there 8 days, but the trip actually got me through most of the
semester. Just thinking about the sun made working on my papers and reports
so much easier. It started to rain here a few weeks ago and hasn't let
up a bit.
Never
fear, should you misplace this Christmas letter, you can find it on the
World Wide Web. Besides the school psychology site, in my free time I
have also created a personal web page. Actually, it was my final assignment
for my Literacy and Technology class. It is kind of a brief autobiography,
places I've been, hobbies, baby photos. . . I don't really consider web
design a hobby, I actually find it a bit tedious. I think it is a testimony
to the simplicity of it all and gives new meaning to, "If I can
do it anyone can." Most search engines will turn up my web pages
if you just type in my name.
Enough about us for another year. Brian and I
hope this finds you well and enjoying life! Stay in touch.. |
