There are consistent things Brian and I have come to count on in life: God's steadfast love and faithfulness, life without snow and freezing temperatures, and our annual Christmas letter.  This year many of you will read this letter on our web site.  In the true California spirit we are attempting to save a few trees and use less paper.  (Actually, that's not it but it sounds better than saying we want to lower our print and mailing costs.)

Brian still enjoys his job at Advent Software.  We have been blessed that his company has stood strong during the Dot.com bust that hit so many in the Bay Area.  He has been very involved with Bermuda, the Guide Dog Puppy we acquired in March, 2001.  I had the dog from week 8 to week 13.  Just long enough to realize dog ownership is not as easy as having a cat.  Fortunately, once Bermuda was old enough to go on public transportation, Brian was able to take her tojackmudaweb.jpg work with him.  Brian has had her at work every day since.  They go to Guide Dog Puppy training meetings twice a month and various outings preparing for the day in March 2002 when she will go back to Guide Dogs for more training prior to being paired with a blind person.  We will miss her. . . Jack will not.  Here is a photo just before the swat.  You can see more photos of Bermuda.

Jennifer continues to run summer camps for UC Berkeley.  In February Brian and my parents joined me at a camping conference at Disney World.  It was the first time I had ever been there.  In addition to the regular attractions, we went to an exotic animal education center (see baby monkey photo).  After seeing how much work the dog has been I am glad we didn't bring the monkey home.  This fall I decided to split my time between UC Berkeley and a local school district so I can keep my school psychology credential up to date.  While working as a school psychologist has advantages, summer camp is my first love and still a ton of fun!  This past May the high school girls I have been working with at church graduated.  No one could replace that group. I have taken a leave of absence from youth ministry.  The cats have adjusted to Bermuda although Jack enjoys someone to swat at.  Hubert seems unaffected by the dog but loves that less attention is on him.  Despite his chipper smile in the photo, he did not enjoy wearing the witch hat for Halloween

This holiday season is like no other.  Life has a new perspective.  Brian and I were fortunate and not personally effected by the loss of loved ones on Sept 11th.  We have been reminded of the verse in Luke, "Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." Luke 12:48 (NLT)  We truly have been given much more.
